Alternative Treatment For MRSA

Alternative Treatment For MRSA

October 6, 2022 By Peter Leave a Comment

A common alternative treatment for MRSA is the use of bacterial phages. This group of antibiotics has been found to be very effective against both the clostridial and the penicillinase-producing parent strains of MRSA. The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanate is also effective in treating MRSA infection.

Using bacterial phages as an alternative treatment for MRSA is possible and may be an appropriate alternative in some cases. Its effectiveness is highly dependent on the regulatory framework in place for its use in medicine. However, there are other potential benefits of using phages in this way.

Ceftaroline

Ceftaroline is a novel antimicrobial agent that may be used as an alternative treatment for MRSA infections. The drug's broad spectrum of activity and relative cost savings may enable it to find a niche in the treatment of MRSA and other multidrug-resistant gram-positive bacterial infections. In a clinical study, ceftaroline was effective in treating MRSA and related bacteremias in patients who had previously failed to respond to other antimicrobials.

Telavancin

Telavancin is a semi-synthetic lipoglycopeptide that inhibits cell wall synthesis and impairs cell membrane permeability. Its potency is approximately ten times greater than vancomycin. It is bactericidal against MRSA and vancomycin-intermediate and vancomycin-resistant S. aureus. However, telavancin should be avoided by patients at risk for nephrotoxicity.

Daptomycin

Daptomycin is a drug used as an alternative to other antibacterial drugs. It is safe for use in patients with a wide range of infectious diseases and has rapid bactericidal activity. It is an effective alternative for people who cannot tolerate antimicrobials or do not have access to medical equipment.

Linezolid

Linezolid is a widely used antibiotic in the treatment of bacterial infections in the skin and soft tissue, including MRSA. It is available in both oral and intravenous forms and is highly bioavailable. There are no specific dietary restrictions for linezolid, but the drug is absorbed in the body relatively rapidly. It has a short elimination half-life and is usually taken in 600 mg dosages every 12 hours. In some cases, slight accumulation may occur after oral administration.

Photodynamic therapy

The idea of using photodynamic therapy as an alternative treatment for MRSA is not new. Researchers have been using this treatment for over 25 years in the treatment of certain cancers, but the pharmaceutical industry has been reluctant to pursue its use further. The photosensitisers used in this treatment are often textile dyes.
