Alternative Treatment For Osteoporosis

Alternative Treatment For Osteoporosis

October 31, 2022 By Peter Leave a Comment

One alternative treatment for osteoporosis involves the use of Teriparatide, which is an injection that can be used daily. This treatment is typically reserved for severe cases. It can be expensive and is not for everyone. However, it can be helpful for some patients. You should be sure to discuss it with your doctor.

Teriparatide

Teriparatide, a new drug for osteoporosis, has been shown to reduce fractures in women with severe osteoporosis. It is also effective in women with low bone mass who have had previous fractures. In addition, it is a cost-effective treatment compared to no treatment, according to a recent cost-effectiveness analysis. However, there are some precautions to be considered before using teriparatide.

Recombinant human parathyroid hormone (PTH)

Recombinant human parathyroid hormone or PTH is an alternative treatment for osteoporosis that increases bone calcium levels. This hormone, which is produced by the parathyroid gland, is an anabolic hormone that regulates bone formation. It stimulates bone formation by increasing calcium absorption from the gastrointestinal tract and the renal tubules.

Thyme

Thyme is an herb that can help osteoporosis patients. This herb is rich in volatile oils and has several beneficial effects on the body. These oils have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties and do not cause any intestinal problems. Thyme essential oil contains thymol, carvacrol, g-terpinene, and b-caryophyllene. Thyme essential oils are considered safe and effective for osteoporosis.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D as an alternative treatment for osteoporotic fractures has shown promise in trials conducted on elderly women. In one study, women taking vitamin D supplements reduced the risk of hip and nonvertebral fractures by 43%. This reduction was even greater than the reduction seen in the placebo group. However, vitamin D supplements alone are not an effective treatment for osteoporosis. Health experts recommend taking adequate doses of both calcium and vitamin D to get the maximum benefits.

Magnesium

Magnesium is a necessary nutrient that has been associated with increased bone density. This important mineral also has many structural, regulatory, and metabolic functions. Low levels of Mg are linked to brittle bones, which can lead to osteoporosis. Magnesium intake can help prevent osteoporosis by improving bone density.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is an essential fat-soluble vitamin that regulates bone metabolism. It is also an important cofactor in blood coagulation. Lack of vitamin K can lead to osteoporosis and fractures. It affects the crosslinking of collagen, the protein responsible for bone formation and remodeling. It also inhibits arterial calcification. Bone mineral density declines with age and is lower after menopause. This depletion of bone tissue leads to osteoporosis, a metabolic bone disease.

Bisphosphonates

Bisphosphonates are a common alternative therapy for osteoporosis. They are relatively safe and have few side effects. In addition, they are effective for healing fractures. However, bisphosphonates are not without risk.

Herbal treatments

Herbal treatments for osteoporosis aren't a substitute for medical treatment, but they can complement it. Before trying any herbal supplements, talk to your doctor to make sure they don't have any potential side effects.
