Alternative Treatment in Psoriasis

Alternative Treatment in Psoriasis

October 25, 2022 By Peter Leave a Comment

There are many alternative treatments for psoriasis. These include Emollients, Laser therapy, and Tar. Some of these treatments have proven to be effective in treating this condition. These treatments are a great alternative to conventional medicine. If you are considering these options, it's important to find the right treatment option for you.

CAM treatment

According to the National Psoriasis Foundation, more adults are now turning to CAM treatments instead of traditional allopathic medication to treat their psoriasis. The reason for this trend is probably due to the undertreatment of psoriasis. A physician should talk with his or her patient about the efficacy of these treatments and possible side effects.

In one study, dermatologists in the US found that more than 50% of their psoriasis patients were using complementary and alternative medicine. The study analyzed the reasons for CAM use among patients and physicians. It found that patients surveyed had a high rate of CAM use, with 62 percent of those surveyed reporting having visited a CAM practitioner.

Emollients

Emollients are very moisturizing creams that can be applied to affected areas. They are particularly helpful for people with dry or thick skin. However, they can be messy and can stain clothing. Hence, many people choose to use them at night. Emollients also have anti-itch ingredients. Depending on the type and location of your skin, you may want to experiment with a variety of emollients to determine which one is best for you.

Emollients work by increasing the skin's natural moisture barrier. They can be applied on the skin's surface or to the scalp. They come in many forms, and dermatologists often advise a combination of products in a treatment regime. Regular use of bath oils can help keep the skin supple and hydrated.

Laser therapy

The use of laser therapy as an alternative treatment for psoriass has a number of benefits. This form of treatment can clear the skin of plaques for months or years. It can also target new spots that may appear over time. Although the therapy can be safe, some side effects are possible. These include redness, blisters, and changes in skin color. A consultation with a dermatologist is necessary before treatment.

XTRAC laser therapy has been approved by the FDA as an alternative treatment for psoriasus. The device, which is portable, emits a narrow band of 308-nanometer ultraviolet light focused specifically on lesions. Because the wavelength of the light is so narrow, it penetrates the skin and breaks down skin cells. The treatment may take fewer sessions than other forms of psoriasis therapy.

Tar

Tar is an old treatment for psoriasis, though newer options have reduced its use. It works on the skin by inhibiting the rapid growth of skin cells and is often effective in alleviating the symptoms of psoriasis such as itching, scaling, and inflammation. There are various tar products on the market, including lotions, shampoos, and ointments. The products can be purchased over the counter without a prescription.

In addition to the use of topical treatments, patients may benefit from counseling to manage their symptoms. A good patient adherence can improve the outcome of treatment. Patients can also minimize the severity of their symptoms by using emollients and hydration products. Proper skin hydration can prevent the formation of new psoriasis at sites of trauma.

ISA247

ISA247 is an investigational oral calcineurin inhibitor that has shown some promise in treating plaque psoriasis. It may also have less nephrotoxicity than cyclosporine. The drug may help patients who aren't candidates for phototherapy.

It's a mild corticosteroid that's available over the counter. Apply it to affected areas several times a week. For best results, dilute it with water to a one-to-one ratio. Rinse the skin thoroughly after applying it to avoid irritation. ISA247 is not recommended for people with open wounds, bleeding skin, or skin that has been cracked.
