CDCS allows for certain services that can enhance an individual’s independence and quality of life. However, some services cannot be covered. For example, behavioral reinforcements, homemaker services, and unlicensed support services are not permitted. In addition, adaptive equipment, supplies, or adapted services must improve the consumer’s ability to control, perceive, or communicate with the environment. These services must be approved by a prescribing MHCP enrolled physician.
Behavioral reinforcements are not allowed by CDCS
Behavioral reinforcements have been proven to be effective in behavioral modification. This form of treatment works by rewarding desired behavior, and aversive behaviors are avoided. Positive reinforcement is more effective because it leads to behavioral modification that lasts longer. Using a schedule of positive reinforcements will encourage desired behavior.
Unlicensed support services for personal assistance, respite care and homemaker services
Some individuals with disabilities, seniors, and the disabled can benefit from unlicensed support services. These services provide in-home personal assistance, respite care, and homemaker services. Some providers are specialized and offer a range of services. In-home care includes companion services, which focus on a person’s overall wellbeing. Community-based services can help an individual maintain a routine and develop new skills. The services also provide respite care to ensure safety when the primary caregiver is away from the home.
Unlicensed home care services also require clients to follow specific health and food safety regulations and be in good physical condition to perform the tasks. While the service is not considered an habilitation service, unlicensed caregivers provide assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, and companionship.
Adaptive equipment must increase the consumer’s ability to perceive, control or communicate with the environment
To be considered adaptive, equipment must improve a consumer’s ability to perceive, control, or communicate with the environment. These equipments can help combat climate change, and address the problems of extreme poverty and famine. In addition, they can help communities improve their livelihoods and reduce the number of famine marriages.
The design of adaptive equipment should be in keeping with the user’s intuition and expectations. Information should be arranged in accordance with importance, and should be presented with adequate contrast, prompts during task completion, and feedback after completion. Information should also be legible and effective no matter the ambient conditions. In addition, it should be compatible with a variety of sensory devices.
