How to Become an Alternative Medicine Specialist

How to Become an Alternative Medicine Specialist

October 7, 2022 By Peter Leave a Comment

If you want to become an alternative medicine specialist, you will need to pursue advanced training. This can include pursuing an advanced degree or continuing your education with continuing education courses. Depending on your specialization and the area of practice you live in, salaries for practitioners of alternative medicine vary. However, with experience and education, you can command higher pay. You can also open your own practice to set your own rates and schedule.

Alternative medicine is based on theories that contradict established science

Most of the theories behind complementary and alternative medicine are not scientific, violate established science, and rely on anecdotal evidence. For example, there is no scientific basis for the idea of “special vital forces” and “energy fields” associated with living organisms. Similarly, medical journals should not publish claims that defy the established science.

It combines complementary and alternative medicine

Integrative medicine is a form of medical care that combines conventional medicine with complementary therapies to treat the whole person. The term refers to a variety of health care systems, practices, and products. Conventional medicine is practiced by physicians and health care providers who have obtained the appropriate doctorate degrees. Complementary and alternative medicine practitioners are known as CAM practitioners.

Various complementary therapies are safe and effective for many diseases. However, you should always check with a healthcare professional before undergoing any complementary therapy. Unlike conventional treatments, complementary therapies do not have rigorously tested scientific trials and may have side effects. However, many people use them successfully. There are some common side effects that you should be aware of before you begin any treatment.

Integrative medicine combines complementary and alternative medicine therapies with conventional medicine to improve patient outcomes. Examples include biofeedback, energy healing, meditation, and tai chi.
