These highly versatile algorithms, known as large language models (LLMs), became a hot topic in December 2022 when OpenAI’s GPT3 agent, also called ChatGPT, was released. LLMs can be used to have conversations with humans in human-like manners. They are able to comprehend complex queries and provide nuanced responses. This article has potential medical uses.
We all know someone who has used a chatbot, or at least a somewhat basic algorithm from a service provider. These interactions are rarely very impressive. They sometimes solve our problems but most often result in frustrated users leaving with the promise of contact from human support staff members.
Large language models have undoubtedly changed the field. They are capable of providing high-quality assistance like never before. A few weeks after ChatGPT was released, Google/DeepMind launched MedPaLM. This large language model is specifically designed to answer healthcare-related queries. It is based on the 540-billion parameter PaLM Model.
The model was trained using six existing medical Q&A datasets (NedQA and MedMCQA), PubMedQA and LiveQA and MedicationQA and MMLU), and developers also created their own HealthSearchQA to ask about medical conditions and associated symptoms.
MedPaLM is currently not available for testing by the general public. However, you can view the paper of the researcher here.
It “performs encouragingly, but is still inferior to clinicians.”
This document lists many possible medical applications including knowledge retrieval and clinical decision support. It also summarises key findings from studies and triages patients’ primary care concerns. However, it noted that MedPaLM “performs optimistically, but is still inferior to clinicians.”
These diagrams illustrate that MedPaLM still had a low performance in many areas.
- Med-PaLM had 16.9% incorrect retrieval, compared to 3.6% for clinicians.
- In 10.1% of the MedPaLM responses, incorrect reasoning was observed in 2.1% clinician answers
- In 18.7% of the cases, incorrect comprehension occurred for the algorithm, and in 2.2% in the case for the clinicians
Large language models might be the best choice for medical consultations
The model is not perfect but it is significantly more efficient than previous algorithms and the field is rapidly improving. Chatbots based on LLMs offer a new level of human-AI interaction.
This is what I believe will happen. As these models improve, the chance of healthcare workers being unable to provide care will decrease. It will be a better idea to learn how to communicate with an LLM algorithm, purely because it will make it easier for us not only to get answers but also avoid long waits for healthcare staff.
A live consultation with a doctor is a luxury of the 21st Century. Any solution to this problem (from asynchronous Telemedicine to medical chatbots), will improve our health prospects.
The Medical Futurist published the article MedPaLM: The New AI Medical Chatbots Will Soon be Better than Waiting for a Doctor.

What is holistic medicine opposite?
Holistic medicine is an approach to health care that considers all aspects of the human body and its emotional, social, spiritual, and environmental dimensions. It recognizes that each illness must have multiple causes, and therefore requires a combination or several treatments to be most effective.
Doctors who practice holistic medicine believe that prevention is better than cure. They partner with patients to achieve optimal wellness.
They look for the root causes of disease to prevent them from returning. Holistic doctors look at the whole body, not just the organs. Holistic physicians often refer to the whole being as “the Body”.
They treat the whole body, not just the skin. The doctor may recommend changes to your diet, exercise, or life style. He might also recommend yoga or meditation, herbal supplements, massages, acupuncture, chiropractic care, or other forms alternative medicine.
What does a holistic medicine doctor do?
Holistic medicine is a holistic approach to treating patients. They may incorporate western medicine into their treatment, as well as traditional methods such acupuncture or herbs.
They treat the illness, not just the symptoms. The patient should feel better upon completion of treatment.
Doctors must not only treat the illness but also look out for ways to prevent it from returning.
Holistic refers to all aspects of someone’s life.
Why is holistic healing better?
Holistic health care is about treating the whole person, not individual symptoms. This involves looking at how someone feels about their body, their diet, where they live, and how much stress they have.
Holistic medicine takes into account all aspects of a patient’s life and treats them like a whole package. This may sound simple but it is not easy to practice. Most doctors are focused on the physical side.
Who uses alternative medicine instead of traditional medicine?
Alternative medicine is available for many reasons.
- They want to avoid the use of harmful drugs or surgery.
- They believe natural remedies work more effectively.
- They prefer noninvasive treatments.
- They want to spend less money.

What types of treatments aren’t considered holistic medicine?
Holistic medicine focuses on the whole person as a healing approach, rather than just the symptoms. It helps people to recover from illness by promoting health and preventing disease.
Holistic medicine is a natural alternative to drugs and surgery.
Holistic medicine is a lifestyle change that includes exercise, diet, yoga, meditation, breathing exercises and massage.
Integrative medicine is also known as holistic medicine. It integrates all aspects, including the patient’s spiritual, mental, and physical needs, into a single comprehensive care plan.
Holistic medicine emphasizes prevention as well as early detection of diseases and encourages healthy lifestyles.
Holistic doctors believe there is no one cause for every condition. Holistic doctors instead look at the whole person, including genetic factors and environmental influences, lifestyle choices, personal habits, and lifestyle choices.
Holistic practitioners focus more on the mind, emotions, and spirit than on the body alone.

What type of products are used for holistic medicine?
These products can be described as natural, but not necessarily organic. These products may have been grown with natural pesticides and fertilizers, but were also processed in a way that is less harmful to the human body. Some herbs can trigger allergic reactions in certain people, so it is important to make sure that they are prepared according to their requirements. Groceries sell more herbs than health food stores. These herbs often have higher levels of herbicides than those sold at grocery stores.
Herbal supplements are usually made from dried plants. Some people prefer buying them in liquid form, which tends to be cheaper. They are still safer, however. Liquid herbs can lose nutrients during processing. The product may lose its original potency. In addition, most herbal supplements don’t undergo quality control testing before being put on store shelves.
Most herbs and spices are added to food once it is cooked. They can be found in condiments such as ketchup, mustard and salad dressing, as well soup mixes and marinades.
Supplements are usually taken orally (by chewing). Most vitamins and minerals come in tablet form. Other vitamins and minerals can be purchased in capsules.
Homeopathic remedies, which are highly diluted substances, can be derived from any plant, animal or mineral. They are designed to stimulate the body’s healing systems. They are not considered “homeopathic” but they work in the same way as regular medication. They act on the body’s immune system to restore balance, and promote wellness. Homeopathic remedies are considered safe and non-toxic. They are widely used in Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Acupuncture involves inserting needles at specific points on the meridians of your bodies. This is based on traditional Chinese medical theories that energy channels are the pathways through which life force flows. The theory states that illness occurs when blockages occur in these channels. It is believed that energy flow can be restored by stimulating specific points along the meridian lines using fine needles. The body then returns to normal operation.
Chiropractors can manipulate the spine to correct misalignments. American doctor Daniel David Palmer devised this method in 1895. He claimed he could diagnose and treat diseases by manipulating vertebrae. His methods involved spinal adjustments, muscle tests, and percussion.
Chiropractic has gained popularity in recent years. Many believe it works better than conventional medicine for back pain.
Massage therapy includes rubbing, tapping or tapping on muscles, joints, or other body parts. Massage helps loosen tight muscles, reduce tension, and relax sore muscles. Massage therapists use Swedish massage, deep tissue, sports, reflexology, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and others.
Reflexology refers to alternative medicine that uses pressure to apply pressure to specific areas of your feet and hands using thumb pads and fingers. Reflexologists claim that this method stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal.
Aromatherapy uses essential oil extracted from plants to relieve stress and boost mood. Aromatherapy is also beneficial because essential oils can have a positive effect on health conditions, such as headache relief and arthritis treatment. Aromatherapy can be used in many ways, including:
Craniosacral Therapy utilizes gentle touch to help alleviate pain and discomfort. Cranial refers to the skull; sacrum means “sac” in Latin, and cranial sacral therapy combines both. This therapy involves the application of light pressure to different areas on the head, neck and shoulders. The therapist also moves her/his hands along the patient’s body.
Cupping therapy involves applying cups to the skin to draw out toxins and create suction. Cupping is often combined with acupuncture or moxibustion (burning herbs) and may be used for detoxification.
Dietary supplements are oral or topical products that contain vitamins, minerals, herbal extracts, amino acids, enzymes, probiotics, antioxidants, and fatty acids. Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act of94 is the FDA’s regulation of dietary supplements. Two criteria must be met before a dietary supplement can be legally sold. It must be a “dietary component,” which means it contains more than 1% of a vitamin or mineral, herb, or any other botanical listed on Food and Drug Administration’s Generally Recognized as Safe List. Second, it must have been manufactured according to Good Manufacturing Practices, meaning its ingredients were handled properly during production.
Electrotherapy uses electrical currents to stimulate nerves and muscles. The most widely used form is transcutaneous electronic nerve stimulation (TENS). The skin electrodes used to place TENS devices allow for low-level electrical pulses. These pulses activate receptors in the brain that block pain signals. Intermittential current therapy and magnetic field therapy are other forms of electrotherapy.
Energy healing is based in the belief that everyone has inherent healing abilities. Also, that our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs can have an impact on our physical health. Although energy healing has been practiced since ancient days, practitioners today accept that there is more than one layer of energy. One layer is called emotional and another is mental energy. One layer is called emotional energy. Another layer is mental energy. Others include physical, spiritual, chakras, vital, life force, prana, kundalini, biofield, aura, and quantum fields. Some believe that these energies are connected to the universe at large. Some believe they are able to heal others by using their minds. There is not much scientific evidence supporting energy medicine.
Energy psychology is about studying the effects of emotions on physiological functions, and vice versa. It is sometimes considered an alternative to psychotherapy because it focuses less on discussing past events and more on helping clients change present behavior. Energy psychology does not require any specific theoretical framework but draws from many disciplines, including cognitive behavioral therapy, transactional analysis, interpersonal psychoanalysis, attachment theory, and developmental psychology.
