A new study has shown that resistance training can have similar benefits for women and men over 50. Although men tend to have greater absolute muscle mass, gains relative to body weight are comparable to those made by women.
These findings were published in Sports Medicine. They consolidate the results from 30 resistance training studies that involved over 1400 participants. The paper compared the results for women and men aged 50 years and older.
