After watching the Democratic National Convention and witnessing Kamala Harris’s nomination acceptance speech, I couldn’t stay silent. The stark contrast in values and beliefs in our country is alarming. From democracy to human rights to fair elections, the divide is glaring. It’s evident that certain individuals in positions of power and privilege are determined to resist the idea of a BIPOC woman becoming President.
A Glimmer of Hope
Despite the challenges, the DNC left me feeling optimistic about the future of our nation. Hope is a risky venture, especially for marginalized communities. But embracing hope can fuel real change. And that change, rooted in social justice and democracy, is what America urgently needs.
Standing Firm
As a physician focused on public health, politics is no longer just a debate—it’s a health issue. Advocating for women’s rights and fighting against white supremacy are causes close to my heart. I come from a family that has a history of activism for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC rights. And I firmly believe that Kamala Harris embodies the leadership our country needs.
Choosing Silence is Not an Option
Silence, in this critical moment, is akin to complicity with oppressive forces. The upcoming election is not just about political parties; it’s about fundamental values. A vote for Kamala Harris is a stand against misogyny, white supremacy, and the erosion of democratic principles.
Hope in Action
The recent DNC showcased a diverse array of talent and leadership, instilling hope in many. The prospect of seeing individuals from different backgrounds ascend to positions of power is truly transformative. The celebration of diversity and justice at the convention was a poignant reminder of what is at stake in this election.
Embracing Change
As we approach the election, I urge everyone to reflect on the values that resonate with them. Watching Kamala Harris’s speech and contrasting it with the rhetoric of the opposition can illuminate the path forward. Let your vote reflect your values and let freedom prevail.
With sincerity,
Lissa

How To
What products are used in holistic medicine and what do they look like?
These products can be described as natural, but not necessarily organic. These products could have been grown naturally without pesticides or fertilizers. But they were also processed in a way that is safer for your health. For example, some herbs can cause allergic reactions in some individuals, so they may need to be prepared differently depending on their needs. It is more common to find herbs in grocery stores than at health food shops. These latter may contain higher levels herbicides as well as fungicides.
Herbal supplements are usually made from dried plants. Some prefer liquid forms of herbal supplements, as they tend to be more affordable. But, liquid herbs are not necessarily safer. Liquid herbs can lose nutrients during processing. There is no guarantee that the product will retain all its original potency. In addition, herbal supplements aren’t tested for quality before being placed on shelves.
Herbs and spices are generally added to foods after cooking. You’ll find them in condiments like ketchup, mustard, salad dressing, barbecue sauce, soup mixes, and marinades.
Supplements are generally taken orally (by taking them by mouth). Most vitamins and mineral supplements are available as tablets. Some are also available as capsules.
Homeopathic remedies are highly diluted substances derived from plant, animal, mineral, or synthetic sources. They stimulate the body’s healing processes. They are “homeopathic” and do not have the same effect as regular medicines. They act on the body’s immune system to restore balance, and promote wellness. Homeopathic remedies are safe and nontoxic. They are used extensively in Europe, Canada and Australia, New Zealand as well as South America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Acupuncture involves inserting fine needles in specific points along the meridians. It is based in a traditional Chinese medical theory which says that life force flows through energy channels. The theory states that illness occurs when blockages occur in these channels. It is believed that energy flow can be restored by stimulating specific points along the meridian lines using fine needles. The body then returns to normal operation.
Chiropractors can manipulate the spine to correct misalignments. This technique was developed in 1895 by Daniel David Palmer, an American doctor. Palmer claimed that he could cure and diagnose diseases by manipulating the spines. His methods included spinal adjustments, muscle tests and percussion.
Chiropractic has become very popular over the past few years. Many believe it works better than conventional medicine for back pain.
Massage therapy is a form of massage that involves massaging, kneading or tapping muscles, joints and other body parts. Massage is a great way to relax tight muscles and reduce tension. Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, sports, reflexology or myofascial release are all methods used by massage therapists.
Reflexology can be described as alternative medicine. It involves applying pressure to certain areas on the feet and hands with thumb pads or fingers. Reflexologists claim that this method stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal.
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils obtained from plants to alleviate stress, enhance well-being, and elevate moods. Aromatherapy is also beneficial because essential oils can have a positive effect on health conditions, such as headache relief and arthritis treatment. There are many kinds of aromatherapy.
Craniosacral therapy uses gentle touch to relieve pain and discomfort. Cranial refers to the skull; sacrum means “sac” in Latin, and cranial sacral therapy combines both. The therapist applies light pressure on various areas of the patient’s head, neck, shoulders, arms and legs while moving her/his hand across the body.
Cupping therapy uses cups placed on the skin to produce suction and draw out toxins. Cupping may also be used in combination with acupuncture (burning herbs), or as a detox method.
Dietary Supplements are oral or topical products containing vitamins, minerals. Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act of 1993 regulates the FDA. A dietary supplement must meet two criteria to be sold legally. It must be a “dietary component,” which means it contains more than 1% of a vitamin or mineral, herb, or any other botanical listed on Food and Drug Administration’s Generally Recognized as Safe List. It must adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices. This means it was properly manufactured.
Electrotherapy uses electricity to stimulate the nerves and muscles. The most widely used form is transcutaneous electronic nerve stimulation (TENS). TENS devices deliver low-level electric pulses to the skin using electrodes. These pulses stimulate brain receptors that block pain signaling. There are also electromagnetic therapy options such as magnetic field therapy, interferential current therapy, and ultrasound therapy.
Energy healing is based on the belief that we all possess innate healing abilities and that our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and intentions affect our physical health. Modern practitioners accept that energy healing is possible, even though it has been practiced since ancient times. However, there are many layers to energy. Emotional energy is one layer. Another is called mental energy. Other energies include the physical, spiritual, chakras and vital, life force. Some believe that these energies are connected to the universe at large. Some believe that these energies can be used to heal other people using only their minds. The scientific evidence for energy medicine is still limited.
Energy psychology involves studying how human emotions affect physiological functions and vice versa. Energy psychology is often considered an alternative for psychotherapy, as it does not focus on past events but rather on helping clients to change their behaviour. Although energy psychology does not have a particular theoretical framework, it draws from many disciplines including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), transactional analysis, interpersonal psychoanalysis and attachment theory.
